Your first week with Porul
You don’t have to use every feature. This routine builds the habit first and adds tools as you need them.
Day 1: set the foundation
Section titled “Day 1: set the foundation”Set your currency, your expected income and your fixed bills. Your Daily Life Cost appears straight away, even before you log anything.
Days 2 to 4: just log
Section titled “Days 2 to 4: just log”Log every expense in the moment, when you can. Tag each as Need, Want or Oops, and pick a domain. Don’t worry about being “right”: the tag is your own judgement. Within a few days Porul starts suggesting your usual items, so entries take a few seconds. See Kakeibo.
Day 5: look back
Section titled “Day 5: look back”Open the Transactions screen and filter to Week. Look at your Need, Want and Oops totals on the home screen. Notice patterns; there’s nothing to fix yet.
Day 6: add a loan, if you have one
Section titled “Day 6: add a loan, if you have one”Enter the amount, rate and tenure, and the EMI your bank quoted. Porul shows the fair EMI, the full schedule and any hidden cost. Try a small monthly prepayment in the planner to see what changes. See Loans. (Premium)
Day 7: set your plan
Section titled “Day 7: set your plan”- Open the Budget tab, look at your surplus and set a Discretionary Buffer for the month. See Budget.
- Create a goal with a target and a date, and see the monthly amount it needs. See Goals.
- Check that your backup has run.
After a week you’ll have a Daily Life Cost that reflects real life, a first view of your spending pattern and a plan to work with.
