Porul

Your smart financial diary.

Porul takes the friction out of tracking expenses, built the way Kakeibo teaches you to actually see where your money goes.

  • Quick expense entry. Log a spend in seconds, no digging through categories or forms.
  • Splits every expense in two. Fixed (rent, EMIs, bills, subscriptions) and everyday spending, so you always know what’s locked in and what’s still yours to manage.
  • Kakeibo-style overview. Everyday spending gets tagged Need, Want or Oops, so patterns show up instead of hiding in a list of numbers.

What kind?

Coffee to refresh yourself is a Personal Want. Coffee with friends is a Social Want. Coffee with clients is a Career Need. An expense that was unplanned and unexpected? That's an Oops.

Everything in one calm place

Kakeibo diary

Tap +, type the amount, tag it Need, Want or Oops. The numpad doubles as a calculator, so you can type 120 + 30 × 2 and save. Porul learns your usual items, so each entry takes seconds, and you can import a CSV, Excel or PDF statement instead of typing it all in. Based on the Japanese habit of reflecting on your expenses. Cash Book

A separate book for a shop, a wedding or a trip, with its own money in and money out. It never mixes with your daily numbers, and you move an amount across only when you choose. Learn more

Daily Life Cost

Every expense you logged in the last year, spread over the year: one steady daily number on your home screen. Learn more

Ready to plan budget

Income minus fixed bills is the money you actually steer, shown as Ready to plan. Record a loan prepayment or an investment contribution against it in the same place, so your loans, your investments and your income live in one plan instead of three separate guesses. Learn more

Loan calculator

See your loan’s real payoff date, run a pre-closure to see what you’d save, and check whether a new EMI actually fits your Ready to plan money before you take it on. Learn more

Goal calculator

Plan an investment or a retirement goal with a target and a date. See the monthly amount it needs, project how it grows, and track every contribution against what’s actually left after bills and loans. Learn more

Analytics

See your Need, Want and Oops expenses by Personal, Social and Career, and spot the days that spike. Learn more

Start in five minutes

  1. Set your currency and your fixed bills. Your budget knows what’s already spoken for.
  2. Log as you go. A few taps per entry. Tag it Need, Want or Oops.
  3. Add loans and goals when you’re ready. The numbers update on their own.

Built on three ideas

Private by design

All of this — the expense tracking, the loan math, the investment planning — happens without you handing over your privacy. Your data lives on your phone. No server holds your finances, no account, no bank connection and no ads. Back up to your own Google Drive, iCloud or a folder you choose. How privacy works

Numbers, not verdicts

Porul is a calculator, not an adviser. It shows you the facts and the figures. It never tells you what to do with your money.

Frictionless

Open the app and start: no sign-up. An entry takes seconds because Porul remembers your usual items, and your budget needs no dozen categories up front. Plans guide you to allocate your surplus money.

Why “Porul”?

Porul (பொருள்) is a Tamil word that means both wealth and meaning. We built the app around that idea: money matters because of what it means in your life.

Porul is shaped by Porutpal, the Book of Wealth in the Thirukkural, the ancient Tamil work of wisdom by Thiruvalluvar. One couplet sums up the whole app:

ஆகாறு அளவிட்டி தாயினும் கேடில்லை
போகாறு அகலாக் கடை.

“Incomings may be scant; but yet, no failure there,
If in expenditure you rightly learn to spare.”

Thirukkural 478

Quick answers

Do I need to connect my bank? No. You log entries yourself.

Where is my data stored? On your phone. Backups go only to a place you choose.

Does it work offline? Yes. Logging, budgeting, loans and goals all work without a connection. Porul goes online only to check a Premium subscription with the App Store or Google Play (once after the free trial, then at fixed intervals) and to back up to your own Drive or iCloud, if you turn that on.

Is this financial advice? No. Porul is a calculator and shows figures only.
